Citizenship ceremonies

Oath at a citizenship ceremony

Are you a Surf Coast Shire resident who would like to become an Australian citizen? Please visit the Australian Citizenship website for information on the process and to apply.

Citizenship Ceremony Update:

Due to the current COVID-19 situation and now with the advice and Guidelines provided by the Department of Home Affairs, Surf Coast Shire Council is pleased to advise that we will be holding online Australian citizenship ceremonies via a video platform to enable people to continue to become Australian citizens during the coronavirus crisis.

Please note: These ceremonies will be held as one-on-one ceremonies (unless a family group is being conferred). This means your patience will be greatly appreciated as we slowly work through the number of applicants on Council’s waiting list.

Leading up to each ceremony, Council will receive a list of applicants from the Department of Home Affairs. Council will then contact each applicant on the list provided to see whether they would like to be involved in an online ceremony, and, if so, will then send the details for the video link on the nominated date.

Council will be holding additional ceremonies during this time, so, again, your patience is appreciated. If you have any questions regarding your citizenship, please continue to contact the Department of Home Affairs on 131 880 or visit their website at www.homeaffairs.gov.au

Thank you for your understanding and we look forward to hosting you very soon – online!
