Helen M Kininmonth Kindergarten

Helen M Kininmonth Kindergarten was originally established by a local Winchelsea family. It has an extensive and natural playground which incorporates vegetable gardens, fruit trees, a mud patch, sandpit, obstacle course, a large cubby and a lawn area for picnics and active play.

Adjacent to the kindergarten is our bush kinder space which the children access for three hours every week.  During this time the children use the natural materials and enjoy looking for mini-creatures, creating artworks with natural materials, building cubbies, climbing trees and exploring and discovering within the environment.

During our kinder sessions the children are involved in a range of walking excursions within our local neighbourhood –  to the supermarket, the post office, beside the Barwon River, the police station, the dentist, the primary school or just  around the neighbouring streets to see things of interest.

Our kinder offers a play-based program based on the children’s interests and abilities.  We encourage the children to develop skills and characteristics they will use all their life including compassion, kindness, tolerance, resilience, persistence, curiosity, the ability to problem-solve, creativity and ingenuity.  We also strive to develop a love of music, of literature and of learning.
