Age Friendly Strategy 2020 – 2024

Working with the Positive Ageing Advisory Committee and in consultation with the community, Council’s Age-Friendly-Strategy-2020-2024(PDF, 5MB) has been developed and was adopted by Council at August 2020 meeting.

The strategy sets Council’s new direction, moving from the historical service delivery model to one of building Age Friendly Communities so residents can age well in the place where they live.

Council plays a pivotal role in leading and facilitating communities where people of all ages, regardless of ability or life stage, can live a quality, engaged and meaningful life.

Strategy cover

Age Friendly Communities

An age-friendly community is one in which older people are valued, respected and actively supported to participate in their community. In 2006, The World Health Organization identified 8 key factors needed to create age friendly communities.
Housing; social participation; respect and social inclusion; civil participation and employment; communication and information; community support and health services; outdoor spaces and buildings and transportation.

The Age Friendly Community framework provides a lens that ensures our communities are more liveable for everyone.
