Fire Up! and choose your own adventure

1 December 2017

A choose your own adventure-style scenario will help people get fire ready as part of the Torquay Farmers Market on Saturday 9 December.

Held at Surf Coast Shire Council office in Torquay, the event is part of Council’s Fire Up! program which helps residents and visitors to understand their fire risk and get prepared.

The scenario will see a five-minute video screened, with participants to move between rooms based on the choice they make.

Councillor Martin Duke – who is a Torquay CFA member – encouraged people to attend the session.

“With the Torquay Farmers Market from 8.30am to 1pm, people can pop into Council office and take however much time they need to access the fire ready information,” Cr Duke said.

“They can also take part in the scenario, which will get people thinking about the choices they make and the consequences of those choices.

“It’s all designed to support people to be better prepared. We want people to plan and prepare now, not when a fire starts.”

Attendees can also access fire ready information and collect a free copy of the award-winning board game, The Fire Game. The game is an educational and interactive board game that results in improved fire awareness. Inspired by local towns, players can put themselves in situations that simulate some of the real challenges of a bushfire.

The board game and Fire Up! information will also be available at the twilight Winchelsea Makers & Growers Market on Friday 8 December from 5pm to 9pm at the Bluestone Bridge.
