Does your household have extra Council wheelie bins that you no longer need or are not paying for?
Council is holding a bin amnesty to collect extra unpaid kerbside bins to help reduce costs.
Each household pays an annual waste charge through their rates for four kerbside bins:
- lime-green lid - FOGO
- yellow-lid - recycling
- purple lid - glass only
- red lid - landfill.
Extra or larger bins
Households can pay for extra bins or upgrade to a larger bin size. These bins stay at the property if it is sold, and new owners may not realise they are paying for them.
This amnesty gives households an opportunity to check their bin services and return any unwanted or unpaid Council bins.
What happens next?
Households that pay for extra or larger bins have received a letter outlining the bins at their property that they are paying for. At the same time, Council staff have been putting stickers on these bins to easily identify approved extra bins.
In coming months:
- bins without the correct sticker will not be emptied
- unpaid extra Council bins will be removed from properties.
All Council-issued bins have a Surf Coast Shire logo stamped into the bin and remain Council property. Bins without the logo will not be emptied.
