Help your guests get it sorted!
Updated December 2025
Do you manage a short-stay holiday rental or rent out your property for holiday accommodation?
Find everything you need to help your guests use the four kerbside bins correctly. We’ve created a range of simple, ready-to-use posters, fridge magnets and stickers to make sorting easy for visitors who may not be familiar with our bin-lid colours or what goes in which bin.
By sharing these materials with your guests, you’ll help reduce contamination, keep bins tidy, and support our community’s efforts to recycle more and send less to landfill.

A guide for holiday rental managers and owners
Managing kerbside bins effectively is an important part of running a holiday rental. Providing clear guidance for your guests helps keep the property tidy and ensures visitors know what goes in each bin.
Use this guide to understand your responsibilities and prepare your property for visitors:

Follow these tips to help guests use the four bin system correctly:
- Include your waste management expectations in your house rules, rental terms, and on the property webpage.
- Leave a kitchen caddy and compostable bags on the benchtop so your guests can collect their food waste. Pick up a free roll of compostable bags from Council.
- Provide separate bins inside the house for recycling, glass and general rubbish.
- Clearly label all bins. Council provides large labels for kerbside bins and smaller labels for indoor bins. Order bin stickers here.
- Display the posters, brochures and fridge magnets available from Council to help your guests sort their waste and recycling correctly.
- If guests put bins out to be emptied, encourage them to download the Surf Coast Rubbish & Recycling App (SCRRApp). They can also download a bin collection calendar here.
- Include your waste removal expectations in the check-out calendar.
