Staff member’s terms, conditions and entitlements are covered under their relevant staff award or agreement. Surf Coast Shire Council has chosen to introduce many other benefits in the workplace that help us to be an employer of choice and a great place to work.

Employee Assistance Program

Our EAP is a confidential self-referral service that allows staff and their family access to free professional counselling services for a range of work related and non-work related issues.

Flexible work arrangements

Council offers its employees a variety of flexible work arrangements to assist with their personal commitments such as part-time work, RDOs, purchased leave, volunteer days and others.

Health and Wellbeing Program

The H&WB program offers a range of health related activities. To date the program has included Yoga, Pilates, Boxing fitness, healthy eating, Mental Health first aid and many others. All staff are welcome and encouraged to take part.

Leadership Development Program

Council supports staff to develop leadership skills and abilities through an internally run Leadership Development Program which invites staff to apply to the annual program that covers many interesting and varied elements and topics.

Learning and Development

Council encourages staff to pursue further learning and contributes towards expenses associated with approved courses through its policies. Council staff are offered a vast range of learning and development opportunities through the Corporate Training Calendar and the web based L&D system known as iLearn.

Local Government Employees Health Plan

The LGE Health Plan can provide employees and their families with significant health insurance savings – more than $1000 per year for some families.

Recognition of staff milestones

Council recognises and rewards staff’s successful completion of key milestones service to the organisation by presenting a gift and certificate at bi-annual recognition of service events.

Salary packaging

Council offers salary packaging for motor vehicles, and salary sacrifice for superannuation.

Social Club

The Social Club is run for all employees of Council and encourages members to get together for informal events such as a relaxed atmosphere for a drink after work, or to go out together as a group with our partners to formal functions. Social club members’ money is spent on ensuring that members benefit from their contributions with a range of activities being offered.

Staff Vaccinations

As a way to prevent illness and reduce staff sick leave, employees are given the opportunity to receive free vaccination against the influenza virus each winter. Other specific positions in the organisation can have access to additional vaccines including Hepatitis B and others.
