Young people across the Barwon region looking to enhance their leadership skills and influence decision-making on important local youth matters are encouraged to apply to be part of a new program.

Regional Youth Voice will welcome 12 local young people who will receive leadership training and networking opportunities with their peers. A partnership between City of Greater Geelong, Surf Coast Shire, Golden Plains Shire and Colac Otway Shire local governments, the free initiative is for people aged between 15 to 20 years.

Successful applicants will join forces for five meetings, scheduled between June and December 2020.

Regional Youth Voice spokesperson Jack Pearson – who is also Surf Coast Shire Council’s Youth Development Team Leader – said it was an ideal time for young people to put their hand up for the program.

“With our daily lives changed by coronavirus, many young people have no doubt spent more time than usual thinking about their future,” Mr Pearson said.

“If you’re someone who has leadership ambitions in any part of your life, this is a great opportunity. As well as receiving formal training, it’s a chance to influence decision-making at a regional level.

“It will also be a valuable addition to your resume at the start of 2021.”

Apply for Regional Youth Voice via mysay.is/SWRYV before 15 May.
