All abilities boat added to Anglesea

An all abilities boat has helped steer an Anglesea playground to become more accessible and inclusive.

Lions Park Playground in Anglesea has been enhanced with a timber boat, which can be accessed by all abilities via a jetty ramp.

Anglesea Ward Councillor Margot Smith was pleased to see the boat set sail in the playground.

“The boat supports all abilities access, whether it is a youngster in a wheelchair or a mum with a pram,” Cr Smith said.

“Once they reach the deck, they can have a go at being skipper with a custom steering wheel.”

The boat is the final element to be delivered as part of the Lions Park Playground Masterplan.

Cr Smith said the boat was designed and built by local artists.

“It’s heartening to know that residents and visitors in Anglesea have a unique accessible feature that enables them to enjoy the playground with their family and friends,” Cr Smith said.

“The playground also aligns with one of our Council Plan goals to create an inclusive community where everyone can participate.”

Lions Park Playground is located on the corner of Great Ocean Road and Cameron Road.
